My First Time

by Catriona Whitehead

They say it's about time I started blogging. "They" being my friends, clients, and mentors. I am looking forward to this adventure. Thank you, encouragers of all things creative. Here we go.

I've felt down about sunshine slowly disappearing in the winter, candy making my face explode into a plethora of miniature volcanoes, and Wiley old cats who insist on pooping just outside the litter pan. BUT--I've never felt down about clothing. Or shoes. Or jewelry. All sadness dissipates when I'm in the presence of fashion. My soul begins to smile as all these little switches in my brain start clicking, formulating the many ways in which each piece I observe can be worn. And that's the cherry on top! These exquisite compositions of fabric, thread, and trimming are made to be worn. My body is the canvas. And though this canvas is quite changeable--every day brings a different mood, a variation in tasks, sometimes a change in physicality--I am happy to throw open my closet door, look upon my clothes, and know that I can be whatever variety of me I want to be today, tomorrow, the day after...

Some don't share my enthusiasm for styling. Nevertheless, everyone has to do it, to some extent, when dressing each day. "What blouse should I wear with this skirt?," "what blouse can I wear with this skirt?," "here I go again, wearing my same buttondown, in one of my same eight colors, with my same black suit." And it's deflating, when you ultimately walk out the door feeling you could have done better to present yourself. Everyone deserves to feel their best--and looking your best is a hell of a start.
That's why I'm a personal stylist. Everyone is capable of looking truly put-together, and I'm here to do all the heavy lifting and get you there. Welcome to An Article of Clothing. I'm glad to be here.

  1. I proclaim you as my fashion guru from here on out.

So I'm in need of some new business casual clothing for work. I completely hate shopping and think it's annoying, but I'm willing to dabble online (I'm a guy btw in case you're wondering). What websites do you recommend to buy some good quality, decent priced clothing?

Also, if I were to tell you I wear dark blue socks with black pants/shoes quite often, would it make you cringe?

    Thanks.
